Collection: Linda Shoults
“Light is what attracts me to a subject, and for me, capturing that light on canvas becomes the big challenge. I want my viewers to experience an emotional response to my subjects, and an appreciation of nature, through the medium of oil paint”
Linda Shoults is a native of Indiana and grew up drawing and was rarely without crayons and paper. It wasn’t until she began taking oil painting lessons, at age 12, did she become interested in painting. Subsequent visits to art museums and galleries opened her eyes to the possibilities of what painting could communicate through the expression of beautiful scenery and the depiction of wildlife.
Linda has her BS and MA from Ball State University, Muncie, IN and enjoyed a career in teaching, hospital administration, and retired as the Director of Operations for a landscape design firm that did DoD contracting for the management and repair of military training land. She was a breeder of Appaloosa Horses for 36 years and enjoyed Dressage, Cutting and Endurance riding. Retiring in 2014 enabled her to paint full time and nourish her passion through continued learning opportunities and regular hours in the studio. In 2015 she sold her ranch in Kansas and moved back to her home state of Indiana settling in Corydon and resumed painting and giving lessons and workshops in her new studio.
Linda enjoys painting in oil and is particularly fond of the woodlands of southern Indiana, the Great Plains of the Midwest, and the Grand Canyon, to depict in her light filled landscapes. Rural life, wildlife, horses and pets are also subjects she enjoys painting. Other than private art lessons throughout the years and art classes in college, Linda has taken advantage of workshops from nationally known artists such as Howard Friedland, Hugh Greer, William Scott Jennings, Phil Starke, Jill Soukup, Kim Casebeer, Loren Entz, and Linda Glover Gooch.
Linda has earned awards in local and regional shows in Kansas and Indiana. Her work can be found in private and public collections throughout the Midwest.
Her work is represented by The Artisan Center Gallery, Corydon; Bourne Schweitzer Gallery, New Albany; and Art on Main, Madison Indiana. More information about the artist and her paintings are available on her website: https://www.LindaShoults.com
