Collection: James Loveless

In 1978, I graduated with a B.F.A. from the Kansas City Art Institute and I am a member of the Oil Painters of America, the American Plains Artists and the National Oil and Acrylic Painters Society. I have studied with Bruce Greene and Martin Grelle.

Currently, I sell western art originals and prints and I also paint private commissions. I have begun to draw and paint memories of my childhood spent with my ranching grandfather and my Native American grandmother. After moving to Fort Worth, Texas, the subjects I wanted to paint changed.  I have begun to paint the relationships of African Americans, Native Americans and Mexican Americans in the development of the old west. I started drawing characters of the old west sparked by the stories of my grandparents.

Loveless says, "I want to express more than aesthetic beauty alone, I want to amplify the aspirations of all Americans that have contributed to make this country one of the greatest ever."

I have worked as a graphic designer, package designer and illustrator for Overlock Howe in Saint Louis Some of my clients included: FedEx, Ralston Purina, Anheuser Busch, Six Flags over Mid-America, Alka-Seltzer, and Kentucky Fried Chicken. After freelancing as an illustrator, I opened Loveless Galleries and my family of five sold prints, created custom framing and painted portrait commissions.  I have taught commercial art serving at-risk high school youth in the Saint Louis Public Schools. I have also painted murals for the Khan Academy in Fort Worth, Texas and several other churches around the country.

I am eternally grateful to historical professionals that have contributed to ensure the regalia, weaponry, and locations are period correct in my paintings. I have been fortunate to exhibit at the Pearce Museum in Corsicana, Texas and the Old West Museum in Cheyenne, Wyoming. I hope you are one of the folks that enjoy scenes of the old west.

I am married to my beautiful wife, Yvette, and we have five children and fourteen grandchildren. Please contact me if you have questions or you just want to talk.
